Professional Biography

Dr. Singh is a Mayo Clinic trained, board certified psychiatrist who treats children, adolescents and adults.

Besides his work at Ashburn Psychological Services, he also holds a senior leadership position with the Inova Health System and is accountable for the mental health/psychiatry work done at all their hospitals, outpatient clinics and ERs in Northern Virginia. In this capacity, Dr. Singh supervises other psychiatrists and leads clinical efforts across that health system. He has admitting privileges at each of the Inova hospitals. He also continues to be involved in the training and education of the next generation of physicians and psychiatrists.

Dr. Singh has been in practice since 2001, initially in Iowa where he had a busy practice seeing patients from ages 4 thru a 100. He subsequently was on faculty at the University of Utah Medical Center. He also served as the senior psychiatrist for the University of Utah counseling center for several years. During this time, he also directed the electroconvulsive treatment (ECT) service for the University of Utah Hospitals.

Dr. Singh has consistently received awards for his clinical expertise and the care he has given his patients. Ideal Schools High School, which was founded in 2008, is excited to announce the openning of their middle school for gifted children.
Academically advanced students who are curious and ambitious deserve expert teachers, engaging and challenging academic courses, interdisciplinary projects that give students an opportunity to apply what they are learning, and opportunities for enrichment beyond the classroom.

We opened our high school in 2008, and are opening our middle school in 2012, with a focus on and commitment to students who are ready for advanced academic work and who are willing to invest the time and effort necessary to achieve their academic and professional goals.

Please join us for an information session or contact us to learn more about our middle and high schools. You can visit our student-run blog for a Virtual Test Drive.

Ashburn Psychological Services provides the most advanced, state of the art assessment and treatment for child, adolescent and adult ADD and ADHD. As a multidisciplinary team, we start with a comprehensive assessment conducted either by one of our highly credentialed psychiatrist’s or psychologist’s. Neuropsychological testing is sometimes warranted for diagnostic clarification inasmuch as ADD and ADHD can look like other conditions and vice versa — anxiety, depression, learning disorders, auditory processing disorder, and other developmental conditions. Diagnostic testing is sometimes required for private or public school placement and instruction.

Treatment is then individualized to the care and needs of the client. Treatment may include medication, cognitive-behavioral therapy, parent consultation and guidance and/or Cogmed Working Memory Training. Some of our clients are adamant that they do not want medication as a component to their treatment or their child’s treatment for ADD or ADHD. Much research has shown outstanding results for ADD and ADHD with evidenced based cognitive behavior therapy alone. Cogmed research studies have also shown impressive results in the treatment of ADD and ADHD.

To schedule a consultation with our team, please contact our office manager, Christine Kutt, at (703) 723-2999.

Cogmed Working Memory Training is a computer-based solution for attention problems caused by poor working memory. Ashburn Psychological Services is certified to administer Cogmed’s innovative training solutions to help you and your family.

Cogmed combines cognitive neuroscience with an innovative computer game design and close professional support to deliver substantial and lasting benefits to its users.

The program challenges the user’s working memory capacity. The computerized, cognitive exercises are designed by neuroscientists to target this key cognitive function that has been proven to be fundamental to executive function and attention. The details of the exercise design allow the program to be very focused and yet provide slight variations. The logic is very much like in the case of the fitness machines used for building muscle strength in a gym. Cogmed is highly focused, cognitive weightlifting.

The difficulty level of the training is adjusted in real time by the software based on the user’s performance. The highly fine-tuned calibration means that every Cogmed user will always be training at the very edge of his or her cognitive capacity. This is true for many people, from a young child with severely impaired capacity, to an adult in good cognitive shape. Whoever you are, Cogmed training will challenge your brain and improve it.

You should not just take our word for this; review the research behind Cogmed and e contact us to scheule a free phone consultation with one of our highly experienced psychologists who use Cogmed to help their clients prepare for success.
