Mr. Stuart Ritchie, a reprsentative of Pamlab, provided a presentation on Deplin at Ashburn Psychological Services. Deplin is a L-Methlyfolate, which is currently being used by many psychiatrists in combination with antipressants to treat Major Depressive Disorder. Research on Deplin has shown positive results as an adjunctive medication in the treatment of depression. Dr. Imram Akram, Dr. Margaret Wong, Dr. Amy Gordon and Dr. Maggie Avedisian of the team hosted Mr. Ritchie for his informative presentation. Christine Kutt, our office manager, and Ivy Hunter, our Marketing Manager, were also present.

Ashburn Psychologial Services provides the most advanced, state of the art assessment and treatment for child, adolescent and adult ADD and ADHD. As a multidisciplinary team, we start with a comprehensive assessment conducted either by one of our highly credentialed psychiatrist’s or psychologist’s. Neuropsychological testing is sometimes warranted for diagnostic clarification inasmuch as ADD and ADHD can look like other conditions and vice versa — anxiety, depression, learning disorders, auditory processing disorder, and other developmental conditions. Diagnostic testing is sometimes required for private or public school placement and instruction.

Treatment is then individualized to the care and needs of the client. Treatment may include medication, cognitive-behavioral therapy, parent consultation and guidance and/or Cogmed Working Memory Training. Some of our clients are adamant that they do not want medication as a component to their treatment or their child’s treatment for ADD or ADHD. Much research has shown outstanding results for ADD and ADHD with evidenced based cognitive behavior therapy alone. Cogmed research studies have also shown impressive results in the treatment of ADD and ADHD.

Cogmed Working Memory Training is a computer-based solution for attention problems caused by poor working memory. Ashburn Psychological Services is certified to administer Cogmed’s innovative training solutions to help you and your family.

Cogmed combines cognitive neuroscience with an innovative computer game design and close professional support to deliver substantial and lasting benefits to its users.

The program challenges the user’s working memory capacity. APS Presents at Prince William County Special Needs Conference

Dr. Margaret Wong, Dr. Jay Lucker and Dr. Michael Oberschneider of Ashburn Psychological Services had the pleasure to present at the Arc of Prince Wiliam County’s Circle of Support Conference on November 15. The conference was for families of children with special needs and the professionals who work with them. Dr. Wong presented on the most recent advances in diagnostic assessment and treatment for autism. Dr. Lucker presented on the most recent advances in speech and language and auditory processing concerns for children on the autistic spectrum. Dr. Oberschneider’s presentation for parents addressed the important but neglected topic of how to speak to your child about autism. We at APS would like to thank Ms. Jan Russell and everyone else at Arc who worked so hard to put together a very impressive and important event.

Information about Tracey Greenwood

Tracey Greenwood is the owner and founder of
Autism Educational Services. She holds a
special education teaching credential in early
childhood and grades kindergarten through
high school. Tracey has a B. S. degree in Special
Education from Ohio University and a M. A.
degree in teaching from National University,
graduating magna cum laude from both schools.
She has 17 years experience in the public
schools as both a special education teacher and
an Autism Program Specialist. Tracey has over
400 hours in training on Autism Spectrum
Disorders and research-based related strategies
and methodologies. These research-based
strategies and methodologies include Applied
Behavior Analysis (Verbal Behavior, Discrete
Trial Training and Pivotal Response Training),
Structured Teaching Model (TEACCH),
Floortime Model, Picture Exchange
Communication, Sensory Integration and Social
Skill Strategies. She brings experience in
developing, implementing and supervising
developmentally appropriate programs for
students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. This
includes utilizing a variety of assessment tools
and developing Individualized Education
Programs. She has worked directly with parents
by leading parent support groups, conducting
training and implementing strategies in the home
setting. Tracey has also been an adjunct
professor at George Washington University,
teaching graduate students in elementary and
